plan of action

After a meeting with our leadership team, we have decided to do the following:

  1. Purchase land close to the slum: Right next to the slum is a much bigger settlement called Kangemi. The cost of an acre of land in Kangemi costs 250,000USD.
  2. Feeding program: The first project we intend to start on this land is a feeding program. Our focus will be the little children living in the slums. Because of the crime, alcohol dens and prostitution, most of the parents are either too sick – many with HIV/AIDS, too poor or too high to care for these children. We have also been advised that a feeding program will not be effective unless these children have an activity – say school or sports to engage them. Therefore, along with the feeding program we will urgently need to do the following:
    1. Built some temporary classes for Kindergarten on this land – with time we intend to build this school further so it can provide an excellent primary and High school for the children from these slums
    2. Put up some sporting facilities for football and other games.
    3. Build a kitchen and a dining center
  3. Build a rehabilitation center: To overcome the challenge we have had of people going back to their lifestyle, we decided to change the strategy by ensuring that whoever gives their life to Christ is brought into a different environment. We will start off by building simple structures – made of wood for their accommodation. We can have one for the ladies and another for the men. We will have one of our staff at the center to ensure that these people go through a discipleship program.
  4. Start a vocational training center: As we disciple the people from this slum, we have to train them in skills that can help them earn a livelihood. This is primarily because we cannot keep them at the center indefinitely since the need is so great in the community. Probably after six months they would have to return to the community, changed and able to build small business to sustain them and their families.
