Impact Touch

Impact Touch is the compassion and community outreach expression of Global Impact Ministries, serving vulnerable people through restoration, addiction recovery support, relief outreach, and practical care.

Impacting a generation

Impact Touch is one of the branches under Global Impact Ministries. Global Impact Ministries (GIM) is a ministry registered in Kenya. The society was registered in 2011 (REG. no. 35053). GIM offices are in Westlands at 3rd Floor, Purvi House, Mpaka Road.

Impact touch is the practical arm of GIM. The mission of Impact Touch is to minister to the needs of the communities we reach with the gospel. The vision of Impact Touch is to impact needy communities holistically by providing food, shelter, education opportunities, health, and rehabilitation for those involved in drugs and alcohol.

Since August 2020, we have helped over 50 young men and women recover from a life of addiction. The biggest challenge we have is getting them occupied with gainful employment. Many of them have lost their families as a result of their behavior. We endeavor to get them reconciled with their families. However, with a lack of funds and work to keep them occupied, many end up relapsing into the addictions.

The Potters house

Our church (Impact Church) is located in Westlands, one of the commercial centers of Nairobi. Located about five kilometers from our church is an informal settlement or slum called Kibagare. Kibagare Slums is an informal settlement with approximately 17,000 residents. It is right behind the upper-class Loresho estate in Nairobi. Though Nairobi has many slums, poverty in Kibagare is heartbreaking. There are so many shanties with no access to proper sanitation, water, and other amenities.

In August 2023, we decided to open a home called the Potters House. We rented a house and took care of all their needs for six months. We instituted  a six-month residential discipleship program aimed at rehabilitating some of the youth in this community. They graduated in February. We allowed them to go back to society. We are happy to note that of the seven young men who went through the program, five are doing very well. They are also actively participating in Impact Church. We also have several young men who have left drugs and crime and now regularly attend church.

Testimony

Michael’s life transformed

On the launch day, Michael (the gentleman in a black tshirt – with the words NYC above),owner of the premises walked in as we prayed for the six people who had just given their lives to Jesus. We asked him if he also wanted to get saved. When he accepted the Lord we prayed for him. God instantly delivered him from 17 years of heroine addiction. He testified at church that he had tried rehab centers and other ways of breaking the addiction in vain. We give thanks to God for His amazing grace!

PLAN OF ACTION

After a meeting with our leadership team, we have decided to do the following:

  1. Purchase land close to the slum: Right next to the slum is a much bigger settlement called Kangemi.
  2. Feeding program: The first project we intend to start on this land is a feeding program. Our focus will be the little children living in the slums. Because of the crime, alcohol dens, and prostitution, most of the parents are either too sick—many with HIV/AIDS—too poor or too high to care for these children. We have also been advised that a feeding program will not be effective unless these children have an activity—say, school or sports—to engage them. Therefore, along with the feeding program, we will urgently need to do the following:
    1. Put up some sporting facilities for football and other games.
    2. Build a kitchen and a dining center
  3. Build a rehabilitation center: To overcome the challenge we have had of people going back to their lifestyle, we decided to change the strategy by ensuring that whoever gives their life to Christ is brought into a different environment. We will start off by building simple structures made of wood for their accommodation. We can have one for the ladies and another for the men. We will have one of our staff at the center to ensure that these people go through a discipleship program.
  4. Start a vocational training center: As we disciple the people from this slum, we have to train them in skills that can help them earn a livelihood. This is primarily because we cannot keep them at the center indefinitely since the need is so great in the community. Probably after six months they would have to return to the community, change, and be able to build a small business to sustain them and their families.
  5. Build Impact Academy: Currently we are supporting children by paying for them school tuition at different nearby private schools. Eventually, our desire is to build a school where more learners can be helped to acquire quality education. We will start by building some temporary classes for Kindergarten; with time, we intend to build this school further so it can provide an excellent primary and High school for the children from these slums.

How can you help?

  1. You can help us purchase land. Any contribution big or small makes a difference. We are looking for 2500 people who can give $100 each towards the land purchase. We have a separate account for the land that no one can withdraw from without several signatories.
  2. Child sponsorships: You can sponsor a child in the feeding program and the school. Three meals each day for a child only costs $1 a day. For your contribution of $30 a month, you can feed a child and provide them basic education besides helping them get discipled in God’s ways.
  3. Commit to a short term mission: You can commit to partner in the project by coming or bringing a team to engage in teaching or provision of health services or ministry to the children or their parents.
